The medical staffing industry will continue to grow because of the upcoming baby boomers, and the current supply of nurses are dwindling. The average age for nurses are in the forties, and they are not being replaced by the new generations. Entrepreneurs have made lucrative business in nursing agency, nursing registry, home care business, medical recruiter recruiting, or as independent nurse contractor in their own field.

The time is now for entrepreneurs to start a nursing agency,nursing registry business, operate a home care business, or as a medical recruiter or just become an independent health care contractor. By being an independent healthcare contractor, you are bypassing the agency and are self employed. Health care facilities are the clients. Home care are regulated by all levels of government from local to federal level. Home care levels of regulations depends on the category of service provided to clients. Home care services ranges from providing just companions or the more medically needed clients such as terminally ill clients. Home care services can be in the form of social service, non-medical, and medical services.

An independent nurse contractor contracts with a healthcare facility to provide nursing services while a nursing agency is an agency that provides nursing services to private individuals and healthcare facilities on a contractual basis. An Independent contractor can contract his or her nursing services directly with a healthcare facility or with a patient and continue bedside practice. The contract is similar to those used by nursing agencies and travel companies outlining the services to be provided, the responsibilities of both the healthcare facility and the nurse, and the length of time the services are to be provided.

Nurse Contractors practice in all aspects of the Healthcare Industry; Home Health, Nursing Homes, Nursing Agencies, Hospitals, Rehab Centers and Doctors Offices, all aspects of Nurse Consulting just to name a few. No advance degrees are necessary unless your business includes diagnosing and treating medical problems. State nurse practice acts do no prohibit a nurse from starting up their own business as an Independent Nurse Contractor. Independent nurse contractor is one who contracts with a healthcare facility for nursing services. A contractual agreement is drawn up between you and the institution. You will be able to negotiate your compensation, hours worked and length of time your services will be needed.
